Meet Jorie!
Hi! I'm Jorie Johansen. I'm the lady behind the camera that captured the images on this website. This is my first shot at a blog, so I thought I would start with an introduction and tell you a little about myself.
Just like many of my fellow human beings, I am many things. I am a mother, a wife, a daughter, and a sister. I am a caregiver, a friend, a kindergarten aide, a painter, a dog mom, an aunt, sometimes a maid (or so it feels), a shorthand cook, and finally a photographer.
I am the daughter of an artist (painter) and a teacher and I am lucky to get to follow in the footsteps of both by working as a kindergarten aide as well as being the owner of a small photography business. I love working in a classroom with 5 and 6-year-olds and find inspiration from them daily. I have been doing family photography for a little over ten years now. I enjoy meeting new families and am grateful for the chance to capture and be witness to the joy and love they have for each other. It’s great to carve out a bit of time for these families to be together with no work, no phones, no obligations other than to just smile and pretend you like each other. I love taking pictures. So much so that I often have a hard time stopping. Often when I say this is the last one...it’s not. I will always take one more and those are sometimes the best images.
I live in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin with my husband, two teenage boys, and two dogs. We are a very active family, and I love being in the outdoors with my family hiking, playing tennis, skiing, spending time on the water sailing, paddleboarding or kayaking, and relaxing at my home away from home in Door County. I also love painting, and oh, I also love birthday cake!
